Waltzing Matilda at Combo Waterhole, near Winton QLD

Managed to get in a history lesson for the boys when we drove out to Combo Waterhole, near Winton.

The story of a striking shearer's suicide at the waterhole to avoid capture by the landowner and police,  inspired Banjo Patterson to write the lyrics for Waltzing Matilda.  It was first performed at the North Gregory Hotel in Winton, which we also visited. The locals are understandably proud of their link and have quite a few memorials dedicated to Banjo Patterson, plus a museum, in the main drag.
